So you might not be chef in the kitchen… and maybe you might have added all of the ingredients on a Mac and Cheese box at the same time (once or twice) but that does not mean that you can’t redeem yourself. This year is the year to watch a ton of cooking channels on youtube, google any and every recipe and make a cooking board on Pinterest. And before you do all of that, you’ll need to get that sad kitchen into shape with a few tools.

1. A Cute Toaster Oven

Microwaves are fine and dandy but a toaster oven, especially for small kitchens, is an ASSET in the kitchen especially on those days when its a meal for one or two and you don’t want to crank on the big ‘ol oven.

This adorable little one here is $22.99.

2. A Steel Box Grater

Forget about the box Mac and Cheese. Make your own cheesy pasta and to make your own cheesy pasta you will need a grater to grate all that yummy cheddar into little slices of heaven. This little magical helper will STEP UP your salad game.

Get this little cutie here for $21.24.

3. Peeler

Once you enter the magical world of cooking you will realize that there are a lot of things that need peeling: potatoes, apples, kiwis, carrots, cucumbers, etc. This nifty doodad does all of that for you. Unlike the grater, this keeps your produce in tact before your grate or chop.

Get one of these slicey sorcers for $8.99.

4. Chopping Board

You’ll be cutting things while you cook, obvi. You will need something to chop said things on. A wood board is the eco friendly there is but they are pricey and can’t put it in the dishwasher. So a cheaper option is its friendly neighbor, a Bamboo cutting board.

Get this set for $17.99.

5. Cast Iron Skillet

Once you begin your epicurean journey you will see this tool more and more frequently. This is where it gets hot… heh. In all seriousness, I recommend this one with a top, just in case you need to cover your concoction or simmer it.

Get this one for $40.00.

6. Ceramic Saucepan

You will need this. You will need a smaller pan to cook down sauces. It is just a fact and reality in cooking. That being said: ok, so we realize that ceramic is a more expensive option for pots and pans BUT the are non-reactive, and contains no chemical additives that might get into your food, so basically no yucky chemicals in your delicious, soon-to-be gourmet meals.

Get these two goodies for $34.99.

7. Measuring Cups and Spoons

Hate to break it to you but there is math in cooking… and science… like a lot of it. Not to get too complicated but these tools are just the beginning of the mathematical components to let’s start here.

Get this 10-piece set here for 21.76.

8. Kitchen Utensils

Much like the saucepan, you will need every single one of these items at some point in your cooking journey. From flipping latkes, whisking sauces, scooping pasta, serving soup… I mean the possibilities of these essential items are endless.

Get this space-saving eco friendly set for $23.99.

9. Oven Gloves

As things do get hot in the kitchen, you’ll need some oven gloves or mitts. These ridiculously cute gloves will put a smile on your face even as you pull out a burnt casserole from the oven. Smile, it’s a learning process.

Get these for $9.99.

10. Glass Bakerware

To start off, you might not need a variety of sizes but if you intend on taking this dang cooking thing seriously OR if you want to give that banana bread a try, it might be a good idea to invest in some decent bakeware.

Get these for 30.99.

11. Food Processor

Let’s be clear on something… food processors are use to perform a variety of food preparation tasks meanwhile blenders (like the magic bullet) are designed to pulverize and combine (in other words, blend) wet and dry ingredients. Therefore, I am concluding that a Food Processor is far more useful. Notes: I use my food processor for almost everything: sauces, soups, chopping vegetables but I also have a magic bullet to blend shakes and crepe mixes, etc.
